Musical features of intermediate complexity for music recognition

چکیده
To achieve my goal, I developed a theory of musical features inspired by Ullman's Goldilocks theory for visual features. I implemented a computer program that analyzes instrumental (MIDI) versions of the songs to extract relevant parameters for my model. This program also identifies music pieces based on a melody contour of varying length and complexity. Finally I experimentally verified the hypothesis that music pieces are recognized by a melody contour of intermediate complexity.

The Role of Time in Music Emotion Recognition: Modeling Musical Emotions from Time-Varying Music Features
Music is widely perceived as expressive of emotion. However, there is no consensus on which factors in music contribute to the expression of emotions, making it difficult to find robust objective predictors for music emotion recognition (MER). Currently, MER systems use supervised learning to map non time-varying feature vectors into regions of an emotion space guided by human annotations. In t...
متن کاملA Study : Analysis of Music Features for Musical Instrument Recognition and Music Similarity Search
Lots of work has been done on speech and speaker recognition. Many technologies were developed for the analysis of speech waveforms. Musical instrument recognition is an important aspect of music information retrieval system. In this paper we analyzed features for musical instruments recognition and a brief study on music similarity. Music similarity search is done by using mel-frequency cepstr...
متن کاملThe musical language Elements of Persian musical language: modes, rhythm and syntax
In treating the subject of musical language, a Persian musician would be intrinsically drawn to the structural similarities between the Persian music and language. Indeed Persian music and language are extremely related in their metrics, intonations and structural phrases (syntax). Although we will draw upon this relationship, our aim in this article is to present “music as a language,” c...

The participants were randomly allocated into three groups: aerobic musical exer...
متن کاملMusic-Listening Systems
When human listeners are confronted with musical sounds, they rapidly and automatically orient themselves in the music. Even musically untrained listeners have an exceptional ability to make rapid judgments about music from very short examples, such as determining the music’s style, performer, beat, complexity, and emotional impact. However, there are presently no theories of music perception t...
